Included in price:
One way train trip from Cape Town to Matjiesfontein on the Trans Karoo Tourist Class train, two nights’ accommodation at Matjiesfontein in the Motel, certain meals, bus transport and tour guide travelling along.

Meals:
Lunch on the train. Breakfast Daily. A la carte dinner at the hotel or at the coffee shop are available – own costs.

Travel by train into the past and experience two nights of history in this Victorian Village. On arrival in the ever-popular hamlet of Matjiesfontein in the karoo, you’ll be transported back in time in this immaculately well-preserved village owned by one person!

This 3-day package is ideal for a weekend break-away into yesteryear, with good food, fresh air and a nostalgic train trip through a picturesque route. A qualified tour guide will accompany you.

After departing by train (a 6 hour journey) from Cape Town, the route travels via Bellville, Paarl, Wellington, Hermon, Gouda, Tulbagh and Wolseley, into the Breede River valley to Worcester. Continue further Northwards meandering through the Hex River valley pass and De Doorns, travelling through Scented Orchards, four tunnels, a solar farm and then onto Touwsriver, into the Klein Karoo and arriving in Matjiesfontein.

Enjoy two nights of entertainment at this world class, yet wholly unique destination. Matjiesfontein is a place of hospitalitiy, magic, history and utter relaxation.

You’ll travel on the Trans Karoo Tourist Class train, accommodated in the garden motel rooms and return by charter bus back to Cape Town after two nights.

Itinerary

Day 1
Make your own way through to Cape Town station where you will be met and welcomed on Platform 24, at 09h15, by a designated Tourist Guide. Board the train, unpack, make yourself comfortable and start enjoying the trip. The tour guide will visit you in your compartment and you can start preparing for your welcome lunch (included in tour price). Enjoy the scenery en route and meet your next-door neighbours. Other passengers will join us along the way!

The trip is scheduled to arrive at Matjiesfontein at 15:30. Disembark the train and walk across the parking area to the hotel’s foyer – about 150 m. Book in and make yourself comfortable. We suggest you familiarise yourself with the village before dinner (own costs).

Day 2
Enjoy a late breakfast and discover the village. Walk, talk, touch and have fun. There is so much to see and to experience! Dinner is served (own costs).

Day 3
After breakfast we’ll depart at 10:30 for Cape Town. En route passengers may disembark and we’ll stop outside Worcester to stretch your legs. A take-away lunch facility is on hand for your convenience (own costs). Mid-afternoon you’ll arrive back in the Mother City.

General Booking Terms
* A R1,250 per person deposit will secure your reservation
* Deposits are non- refundable
* The balance must be paid by latest 6 weeks before the departure date.
* Cancellation less than 6 weeks prior to travel a 100 % cancellation fee will apply.
* You are allowed to cancel up to 6 weeks before the tour departs. Remember, deposits are not refundable.

Children policy

Children 3 – 9 years will pay R200 per child less than the above tour price. Children 0 – 2 years will travel free of charge if sharing a bed and seat on bus with parent.
