The Forgotten Route Tour leaves every Friday and is ideal for individuals, couples or groups of friends and colleagues celebrating any occasion. Other days on request (groups).

Note: Cost includes everything except lunch and drinks. Add an additional R250.00 single supplement.


Discover the true story of a forgotten route of early explorers into the wild undiscovered South Africa. Traverse the Great Karoo, whilst visiting iconic landmarks, Anglo-Boer battle regions and meeting local winemakers, with storytelling sessions and musicians.

This tour includes a BBQ, Potjie, train and bus excursions and 1 nights accommodation.

The Forgotten Route tour offers a great value-for-money experience into the legendary South African Karoo.

Itinerary

Day 1: Friday
- Make your way to the Cape Town Tourism Information Centre
- 08h30 The expedition starts with a short city walk to the Kimberley Hotel
- This historic hotel served as the official departure point to the mining fields in the old days. 
- We board a bus and make our way to Rawsonville to meet the Le Roux Family for a spot of Wine tasting at their boutique estate.
- Boarding the train at Worcester, we head off towards Matjiesfontein.
- On arrival you will find a coffee shop, a museum (for which we’ll gain free entry this evening after dinner, for our wacky night stroll), an out of service two pump Shell petrol station and the Laird’s Arms pub, all situated on the only road that leads in and out of this picturesque town. 
- Next we join John the entertainer for a bizarre bus tour of the town, some honkey tonk in the pub, followed by dinner at the lodge and ending off the evening with a night visit to the quirky underground museum.
- We overnight at the Rietfontein Nature Reserve.

Day 2: Saturday
- After a scrumptious breakfast at the Lord Milner Hotel We visit the famous graveyard before setting off to the quaint town of Montagu via the beautiful Koo Valley.
- Lunch is served at Oupa Batt’s Store, which has functioned as a general trading store serving the local community since 1915.
- We meet the family who show us a behind the scenes look at their biltong production as well as other delicacies before being treated to freshly baked farm bread with homemade jams and cheese.
-Lunch is a choice of potjies served with rice or Stamp mielies, and a surprise desert
- Our last stop is at a local olive estate to sample their products
- Thereafter we journey by bus back to Cape Town, arriving between 18h00 and 19h00.

* Full payment needs to be received 30 days prior to departure date.
* Bookings made within 30 days of your departure date require full payment to secure your reservations.
* Cancellation less than 30 days prior to your departure date a 100 % cancellation fee will apply.
