This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:  


Colona Castle is a small luxury boutique hotel with only 8 Suites and their resources are limited, but make every effort to be as Green as possible can. Fair Trade practices with staff and suppliers are in place.

The boutique hotel recycle water-glass-cardboard-plastics-paper-green refuse etc... and use environment-friendly products.

Colona Castle is very conscious of saving resources and encourage their clients to use less water & electricity (each suite has a separate air-conditioner...)


Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 


Recycling:
Grey Waters are separated and used to water the garden
* Kitchen waste waters are stored and used to water garden
* All light bulbs have been replaced with energy savers – with sensors for outside lights
* Kitchen refuse is separated – recycled where necessary – green rubbish is used for compost
* Paper, newspapers and magazines are recycled
* All glass bottles are recycled
* Separate Air-conditioning unit for each Suite – are always switched off when not needed
* Saving the Planet’s resources

On checking-in, the hotel suggest to guests and visitors how to help in their efforts to conserve energy (washing of bed linen every other day, towels etc… - water and electricity conservation… humane tourism) 

People: 
Affiliation to Uthando South Africa project:  Colona Castle supports Uthando SA (www.uthandosa.org) a local registered non-profit organization supporting a broad range of projects in the poorest and most marginalized communities in South Africa. Through a Uthando field trip, you can learn more about these projects, while also contributing to social development in South Africa.
