We are "The Backpack and Africa Travel Centre", being selected as Cape Town's best backpacker sleep in Lonely Planet 2005. The hostel has also been certified by Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) - a trade mark awarded to businesses that adhere to fair trade criteria, fair wages and working conditions, fair operations, purchasing and distribution of benefits, ethical business practices and respect for human rights, culture and the environment.
Facilities & Services
The Africa Travel Centre is a comprehensive travel desk able to assist with all of your travelling needs, including excellent car hire rates and great deals and advice on trips around Cape Town, South Africa and throughout southern Africa.
We have weekly traditional barbeques on Tuesday Nights. On Mondays we arrange for dinner at Mandelas - a cultural evening of dancing, a Xhosa dinner and interaction with the locals. On Thursday Nights we do "Drum, Drink and Dinner" with 1.5 hours of drumming lessons.
The bar opens to a large balcony perfect for sipping cocktails and enjoying the sweeping views of Table Mountain, Devil's Peak and Lion's Head.
